EMCN (Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers) has been supporting newcomers of all ages and families, including refugees, skilled immigrants, refugee claimants, and citizens since 1981. Each year, they serve newcomers from more than 100 countries of origin, and offer services in over 30 languages.
EMCN has become the go to nonprofit organization for new immigrants and refugees in Edmonton, Canada. Each year, they work with over 1,000 job seeking clients from over 100 different countries. Their employment services team of 25 people serves their clients in over 30 different languages.
With a large and growing number of job seeking clients, they needed to find a way to scale up their empployment services without a massive increase in operational and staff costs.
EMCN needed a platform that would help them connect with job seekers, get clear information on their needs and help them create a workforce profile about the population they would be working with.
They connected with MyMatchWork (MatchWork), an online platform which helps nonprofit organizations connect people to meaningful work while giving the organizations the insights they need to focus on services which matter for their job seeking clients.
With MatchWork, EMCN can now:
1. Connect with job seeking clients either in person or virtually.
2. Get a clear picture of each person's work needs, employment barriers and employment opportunities.
3. Get automated job matches based on each individual's needs, experiences and life situation.
4. Get a clear, real time workforce dashboard showing what their job seekers, as a whole, need and what employment barriers they face.
Their dashboard provides a simple yet powerful lens on the workforce population they support.
This also makes it easier for them to share outcomes and provide reports to the project's partners and funders.
